Free Editing Trial

If you're uncertain about spending your hard-earned budget on a lengthy editing process without knowing what you're going to get out of it, we can do a 1000-word editing trial free of charge for books over 20,000 words.

There are several things this can help establish.

• It helps to give you an understanding of the changes we'd typically make and the kind of feedback we would provide during the editing process.

• We will time this process, so we can get a rough idea of how long it will take us to edit your book, and therefore how much it will cost.

• It gives us (the editors) an idea of what kind of book or project we're working on, which helps us to advise with timing, strategy, and how your budget can best be used. 

• We can see if we're compatible as writer and editor – as well as the kinds of software we're using.

If you're interested, email enquiries@thebookeditor.co.nz with a 1000-word sample of your manuscript and ask about availability. The first thousand words is often the best to send us, so we're not depending on the context of the story (e.g. we're not expected to know your characters) to provide feedback.

It can also help us to tell us about your target reader and your genre. In other words, who are you writing for? The more specific the better, including age group, gender(s), and subculture(s).
